Review of Semester Two

November 15th, 2006 by Rhys in Uncategorized · No Comments

a) This term I have been reading and viewing mostly books and magazines on basketball.  But I have also been viewing Futurama, The Brownlow medal and Runescape.

b) The highs of this semester would have been the tribute to Arnold “Red” Auerbach because I put a lot of effort into that post.  The lows would be my Brownlow Medal where I didn’t spell very well and made many grammar mistakes.

c) I haven’t learned much from texts this semester except maybe a few Basketball Stats.

d) My reading and viewing I would believe has improved because I have started writing a bit more and doing more posts.

e) Blogging I have found very fun and is better than writing in a journal which I find boring and would like to change from writing in a journal to blogging.  The hardest thing about blogging is that I have a slow computer so it takes a long time to load but other than that I type faster than I write so thats the easiest part of writing blogs.

f) In Year 9 I hope to improve the amount of writing I do and also not to slack off as much in the first semester.

Reading and Viewing: Slam 102

November 14th, 2006 by Rhys in Uncategorized · No Comments

1. I have chosen to read the magazine SLAM.

2. It is a magazine which is about basketball but it’s mostly about NBA and sometimes includes World Basketball, WNBA, NCAA and ABA.

3. I like this magazine because it has features on some of my favourite players including Chris Paul, Gilbert Arenas and Marcus Camby.

4. I disliked the fact that it didn’t have enough features on NBA players.  There was only 2.

5. I would rate this magazine one of the worst SLAM’s I have read but it still deserves a 6/10.

Reading and Viewing A Tribute to Red Auerbach

November 2nd, 2006 by Rhys in Uncategorized · No Comments

I am only 12 years old and I have never seen Red but I still believe he is a legend.  He is such a legend that he has won 9 championships in only 10 seasons.  He was first in most NBA coaching wins but it wasn’t until Lenny Wilkens in the 1990’s overtook him.  At the moment Red is 6th in that but is still named the best ever coach in the NBA.

Red died on October the 28th 2006 from a heart attack.  We hope his legend lives on, his victory cigar after every single Boston Celtic win and how when the Celtics weren’t winning the public would say ”Red won’t be lighting a victory cigar tonight.”

Of course the Boston Celtics wouldn’t be famous without Red the Celtics would be like the LA Lakers without Kobe Bryant, Minnesota Timberwolves without Kevin Garnett or Washington Wizards without Gilbert Arenas.

Red made some of the best coaching decisions including trading veteran stars Ed Macauley and Cliff Hagan to St. Louis for there first-round pick in the 1956 draft which got them Bill Russell arguably the best player in NBA history and also getting K.C. Jones and Tommy Heinsohn the next year he added Sam Jones in the draft who all have became Hall of Famers.  He also drafted Larry Bird which was a risky pick put it payed off Larry Bird is one of the best players ever he has had John Havlicek and Dave Cowans which are both in the Hall of Fame.

So Red we thank you for your great dominace in the NBA, to the Boston franchise if it weren’t for you people would be saying where the hell is Boston because you have marked them on the map. I hope that in heaven you dominate gods all-star game.

R.I.P Arnold ‘Red’ Auerbach

Review of Newspaper Article

September 20th, 2006 by Rhys in Uncategorized · No Comments

The article I have chosen is “Saints Target Pyke” that I have disagreed with because Don Pyke would be inexperienced but I think that Guy McKenna or Peter Sumich would be better for the job.  Guy McKenna and Peter Sumich have been assistant coaches for successful clubs.

Reading and Viewing: Futurama

August 31st, 2006 by Rhys in Uncategorized · No Comments

1. I chose to view Futurama last night because Futurama is one of my favourite shows.

2. It was about Fry becoming depressed because he thought he was nobody and he ended up being the only person who could save the universe.

3. The best bits were when Bender rejected Fry after saying “I will do anything, you name it and i’ll do it.” Fry said, “How about bowling?” and Bender said “Nah.”

4. There were no bad bits to this episode.

5. I would recommend this episode to all comedy lovers aged 10-20 years.  I give this episode a 9/10.
